j.d.6915: I have absolutely no problem with Last Epoch's monetary choices. It was either that, or no Last Epoch. Things change, and you gotta roll with the changes. And to show that the community is being petty, I've asked what they should have done. The response I got, "Go bankrupt, they deserve it."
Wintermist-SWE: I find irony in naming the DLC classes as Paradox Classes.
MaksReveck: I haven't had D4 installed in 2-3 seasons now.
I'm quite upset the game isn't adding anything for players like me. Its been 2 years, 2nd expa was pushed back, so many content creators said sooo much is coming omg yes etc and those things weren't a lie per se.
Buuut its not enough and not the size I expected those changes to be. Which brings it back to my issue, its not enough and I feel like despite really wanting to play the game there is no actual progression. The Renown change looks like a step in the wrong direction and is "negative progression".
Again, I really want to play... it is what it is...
P.S I disagree with the data argument - D4 is a better game with worse systems.
IPFreelly: From just my personal experience, it doesn't really matter how much endgame there is if i'm done all the seasonal stuff and gotten all the seasonal rewards in 3 weeks. Once i've run out of tangible goals and all that's left is grinding for minor upgrades then I lose interest.
FalafelPlease: First expansion was so bad why would I even consider buying another one. D4 is over for me and Poe 2 is what I'll spend money on
GhostFS: Fully agree on you take on Last Epoch
They cant compete on cosmetics. But their class and skill system is for me the gold standard. Definitely down for making new characters.
StickyFingers_: This channel is the only reason that I remember D4 exists. Then I go play any other game and the cycle repeats.
Jagernotty: "There's no way Krafton would buy..." If you've been following the Krafton vs. Subnautica 2 stuff you would know that yes....there is definitely a way Krafton would buy this without properly understanding the financial aspects.
Relekism: EHG were screwed the moment they made the choice to make a live service ARPG as there first game instead of choosing to make a stand alone offline ARPG. They didnt have the experience needed to pull off what they set off to do and are now forced to make the customers pay for the mistakes they made.
Siphr0dias: Thanks for keeping us informed. And what really makes me happy, is that you seem to have an interest in Titan Quest 2, which i do as well. :)
MangaMaster13: Yeah, I haven't played Last Epoch since EGH was bought out and I don't plan on going back. It's really disappointing to see a studio that seemed to care about their community so much just sell out like that.
skkim0217: There's a quote I saw in the Korean gaming community: "If you are satified with the game, you should pay for their server fee. Spend a small amount to support the devs if you don't want them gone."
With high production fee and tough competition in the industry, devs may have to choose something users hate for their survival or evil necessary things. It's up to users to decide whether they are on board or not. Your choice; vote with your own wallet.
la7era1u54: I support LE needing to monetize their game to make it profitable, but a class locked behind a paywall is probably the worst way to do that. The optics of it are very poor
hongsitu3429: I already forgot about s10 lol. I moved on becuz I stopped having fun. Each tier needs to unlock either new bosses or activities rather than just each tier being harder and you grind for better gear and stats. Once you beat all the bosses in t1, theres really no reason to keep playing. I mean sure keep playing if u want to push the pit, but the map gets annoying and repetitive.
Fhrek42: About D4, if the game was good and engaging enough to keep players hooked for 3 months... they didn't needed to create artificial roadblocks to retain players after 2 or 3 weeks... the reallity is - D4 dev team is not creative enough to solve player retention without roadblocking enjoyment by slowing down players progression. The NO FUN policy.
FreedumbHS: Tying class unlocks to purchases always leads to balance issues since suits will insist the new class needs to be better than the existing ones to boost the financials
TheSwamper: For me, what makes me quit D4 every season is when I hit the gear wall. Every season, EVERY season, I get to a point where I have mostly 1 GAs in slots, maybe one 2/3 GA, and maybe one mythic. And then hours of end game play gives me NO upgrades. After 4 or 5 2-3 hour sessions of no upgrades, I'm out.
So if they want to keep me playing longer, make the drops get better and better in endgame, up to the point I can fully, mathematically, max out my character. Make that VERY possible.
HKG-gq4kp: The live service game model was flawed given their indie status - their inability to produce seasons without huge delays was a sign that they cant support such. The game was initally profitable. Do updates like buffing underpowered skills/introduce new items while preparing expac. Sell expac, maintain cosmetic shop. Promises for free expacs forever was stupid to begin with.
BearInTheWoods: For his own health/sanity, Judd needs to take a step back. Hire a community manager. And focus on the game. No more communication with rabid ARPG fans. It will only lead to stress and rapid aging.
atravotum: It bothers me how no game company's strategy for monetization is "make a good game" or "make the game better".
Step 1: Fix the trading guild, add a more engaging deeper end game, make your new content more varied in gameplay.
Step 2: Make better cosmetics, add skill chroma kits, add character effects.
Result: I want to play the game and I want to look absolutely sick doing it.
IMO the game has a ton of potential, build diversity is strong and malleable. You can create the character you want, play the way you want. It just falls flat when end game starts to feel repetitive and new content feels very similar to old content. Then theres no reason to buy skins because they aren't that cool or good. There's nothing that says yea I want that look.
oryxandcake2011: Maybe Last Epoch should have announced they were shutting down and then have the community rally behind them to save the company.
MaleficVisions: RAM Prices are insane and more than doubled. In September I had to get new RAM because the RAM I had started throwing errors.f... I paid 265 for a 64GB Ram Kit.... that same kit now is selling for over $900... insane
Vitharr13: While more endgame doesn't always mean that I'll play longer in a season, it increases my odds of coming back each season. I skip every 2-3 seasons in D4 because it's the same gameplay loop that you can exhaust in 3-4 weeks. More variety gives more ability to cycle gameplay and make it feel fresher - for me at least :)
Davivd2: I've been involved with LE since the beginning. EHG were the hero's of the gaming space because they promised to NEVER be paid to win and only charge additional fee's for cosmetics. In response, the game blew up from attention that it got from large scale content creators in the ARPG space. It blew up for 2 reasons. A) it was a good game. B) it was a good game in the ARPG space that wasn't relying on predatory micro-transactions to milk it's player base.
When LE went to full release, it was released alongside a paid cosmetic. As a show of loyalty among the player base, that micro-transaction was the highest selling item on the Steam market. If EHG needed more money, they could drop a paid skin onto the market anytime that they wanted to. EHG could have also thrown together a kick starter if it needed funds to create an expansion. That's how the game came to be in the first place.
Krafton is a shinning example of the cancer that is the gaming industry; predatory publishers. Krafton is currently being sued by the developers of Subnautica. Another small indie game studio that Krafton threw more money at then the IP and studio were worth. Krafton owed the devs of Subnautica a $280 million dollar pay out, and fired them all to avoid paying them. In the discovery phase of the lawsuit, it was learned that the CEO used Chat GPT to try and find a strategy that would allow him to cheat Subnatutica devs out of their money.
Here's what half cocked gaming journalists are missing. This isn't a situation of: "REEEE !!!! now we have to pay for things in a game?!!!" This is a situation of a beloved indie dev, that created a labor of love. EHG started out as Redditors complaining about the same thing that they are literally doing. They started out as a company that wanted to do things right and avoid that. Then they sold out to a predatory publisher, who threw way more money at them than their game was worth, and who probably has planned to fire them right before the expansion releases in order to avoid paying them, just like the publisher did to Subnautica devs.
I partially blame EHG for selling out. But when a publisher throws a hundred million dollars your way, it's hard for anyone to turn that down. Krafton, is every bit as evil as EA and Blizzard,. They knew that to break even on the deal, they would have to monetize the hell out of LE and even with that, we are more than likely going to see EHG devs get fired and screwed out of their money by a predatory company that has no respect for their own products, wants to chew them up and spit them out and move on to the next acquisition leaving a trail of destruction in it's wake.
cajun_canuck: The response to Last Epoch is insane. People need to get a grip. Let the new content come and let people make up their mind when reviews come out.
